This commission began with a series of maquettes developed for a private collector in Mallorca who was seeking a pair of sculptural focal points for her garden. The brief was to create simple, elegant forms with flowing curves that would sit harmoniously within the landscape.

The final sculptures were hand-built from thick slabs of my white stoneware clay, each standing 1.2 metres tall and weighing approximately 150kg. Constructed over several months, the project became one of the largest and most ambitious ceramic works I have undertaken.

Working at this scale brought significant challenges, particularly during the drying, moving and firing stages. With the support of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park site team and their forklift, the sculptures were safely transported around the studio and loaded into the kiln.
