James Oughtibridge

Ceramic Sculpture

James Oughtibridge is a British ceramic and bronze sculptor based at Longside Studios, on the edge of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. His hand-built monochrome works in black and white clay are recognised for their bold scale, sweeping curves and richly textured surfaces, drawing on the contours, mist and shifting light of the Yorkshire landscape.

A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Oughtibridge first discovered clay at Dewsbury Art College under renowned Raku ceramist David Roberts. After several years working in London, he returned to Yorkshire, the landscape and artistic heritage of Barbara Hepworth and the Sculpture Park continuing to shape his practice.

Each sculpture is built slowly by hand from curved sections of clay, refined over weeks or months. Alongside his ceramic work, Oughtibridge produces large-scale bronze sculpture in collaboration with Pangolin Editions, with pieces held in private collections internationally.

Oughtibridge also teaches from his Longside studio, offering small-group courses in ceramic sculpture for students at all levels, from beginners to practising artists.
